How to Take XenicalTake as directed by your doctor. Xenical is most effective when one 120mg capsule is taken with a full glass of water with each meal (three times daily). Your daily fat intake should be divided equally between these three meals so you will benefit from Xenical's actions. If a meal is occasionally missed or contains no fat, skip that meal's dose of the medication. Because Xenical may interfere with absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (eg. A,D,E,K), a daily multi-vitamin supplement with these vitamins is recommended. Take the multivitamin at least 2 hours before or 2 hours after this drug (eg. at bedtime). The effects of this drug may begin as soon as 1-2 days after treatment begins, though weight loss will take longer. Possible Side Effects of XenicalHealth side effects of taking Xenical diet pills may include gas with discharge, an urgent need to go to the bathroom, an increased number of bowel movements and an inability to control bowel movements. These bowel changes indicate that Xenical is working. They usually occur early in treatment, after meals containing higher amounts of fat than are recommended. (A good reason to reduce your dietary fat consumption.) Typically, these symptoms reduce as you continue Xenical treatment and keep to your recommended diet. Xenical and Other MedicationsBefore taking Xenical diet pills, tell your doctor about all the prescription and non-prescription medicines you use, such as: cyclosporine, "blood thinners" (e.g., warfarin), drugs for diabetes (e.g., insulin), other drugs used for weight loss. Cyclosporine should be taken at least 2 hours before or after orlistat to assure maximum absorption of the cyclosporine into your bloodstream. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Precautions When Taking XenicalBefore using Xenical diet pills, explain your medical history to your doctor. Include details of: allergies, digestive disorders (malabsorption or cholestasis), low thyroid function (hypothyroidism), other metabolism problems (eg. oxalate kidney stones, hyperoxaluria).
