About Weight Loss With Diet Pills
How to Lose Weight and Maintain It
How to Lose Weight
As I'm sure you know, in order to lose
weight we generally need to create a calorie-deficit - meaning, a gap
between the calories we eat and the calories we burn. We need to eat fewer
calories than we use up in physical activity.
Okay - So We Lose Weight - Now What?
Typically, after losing some weight either
by following a weight-loss diet and exercise program, or by using diet
pills (or both), we simply return to our old eating habits and regain
all the fat we've lost.
Real Weight Loss Means Maintaining What
You Lose
Point is, it's no good spending time and
money on diets or diet pills unless we maintain the weight we lose. Make
sense?
How to Achieve Weight Loss and Then Maintain
it
- Don't aim to lose too much weight,
to begin with.
Aim to lose 10-20 pounds, then review the situation.
- Don't aim to lose weight too fast.
Aim to lose 2 pounds a week.
- If you use diet pills, don't forget
your eating and exercise habits.
Most studies show we lose weight faster with improved diet and fitness.
- Don't get mad if you only lose one
pound a week.
One pound a week is 50 pounds a year, or 100 pounds over two years.
- It's not practical to use diet pills
forever. So prepare for the future.
This means turning your temporary diet and fitness improvements into
permanent features of your lifestyle. If you can't make the basics of
your weight loss program a reasonably permanent feature of your life,
chances are you've chosen the wrong weight loss plan.
Don't Misuse Diet & Weight Loss Pills
Example 1
Weight loss pills can be very useful, but it's easy to allow yourself
to be controlled by them. Meaning, instead of learning about calories,
healthy eating habits and healthy fitness, we watch TV and eat pills.
When this fails to achieve the 100 pound weight loss we're looking for,
we quit. Then, a few months later we buy more pills and repeat the whole
process.
Example 2
Another way to misuse diet pills is to overdose. We think, if 4 pills
a day helps me lose weight, then 8 pills a day must be better, right?
Wrong! Be very careful when using diet pills or weight loss supplements
- even herbal supplements. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and
be sure to keep in touch with your doctor while you're taking the diet
pills.
