About Laxatives As Diet Pills
Dietary supplements containing laxatives
(e.g. Senna) are becoming quite a popular weight loss method among teenagers.
But laxative diet pills are not a safe way to lose weight.
- First, long-term use of laxatives can
upset the mechanism of the colon.
- Second, if this happens, we can easily
become dependent on laxative pills for regular bowel movements. (Colon-cleansing
does not cure this problem.)
- Third, by over-accelerating the digestive
process, laxative diet pills can reduce the absorption of nutrients
and leave us dehydrated.
- Fourth, much of the weight lost with
laxatives is water, not fat.
If you are taking laxatives as weight loss
pills and find that you are constantly suffering from diarrhoea, it is
advisable to stop taking the laxatives immediately as you may develop
dehydration and vitamin and mineral deficiencies, all of which may have
bad effects on health.
Laxative Diet Pills - Health Warning
Bottom line: do not use laxatives as diet
pills to lose weight. They are ineffective for weight reduction and may
cause long-term health problems.
