Information About Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA)What is Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA)?HCA, or hydroxycitric acid, is an herbal extract sometimes found in non-prescription diet pills. HCA supposedly suppresses the appetite and slows down the conversion of carbohydrates into fat. Laboratory Research into Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA)Laboratory testing of HCA suggests that hydroxycitric acid may be a useful weight loss product. HCA has been demonstrated in animal trials (but not yet in trials with people) to reduce the conversion of carbohydrates into stored fat by inhibiting certain enzyme processes. This research indicates that HCA suppresses appetite and induces weight loss. One case report found that eating 1 gram of the fruit containing HCA before each meal resulted in the loss of 1 pound per day. Weight Loss Trials of Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA) SupplementsTrials of HCA supplements involving humans have proved less successful.
